Brow Lift

Who Considers a Brow or Forehead Lift?

If frown lines above the nose and in the middle of the forehead give an older, angry, tired, unhappy or serious appearance - forehead lift may be the answer. Similarly - heavy, low eyebrows with droopy eyelids can be addressed with a combination of eyelid and forehead rejuvination.

What is a Forehead Lift?

A Brow lift restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes by repositioning drooping eyebrows and minimizing / eliminating horizontal forehead creases. By correcting these negative aspects of aging, a person appears less sad, angry, or tired.

Blepharoplasty (eyelid tuck) is frequently performed at the same time as forehead lift.

How is the Procedure Performed?

  • One long incision, or several smaller incisions, are made within the hair. With receding hairlines, alternate incisions may be needed.
  • The muscle and skin of the forehead are re-positioned.
  • Surgery is performed using general anesthesia and is usually performed in the office OR suite. The surgery takes 1-2 hours and patients return home the same day.
  • A forehead lift is often performed with other facial plastic surgery such as face-lift, neck lift or eyelid surgery.

What is Normal Recovery?

Patients have bandages for 1-3 days and sutures are removed between 7-10 days. Ice packs and head elevation are used during the early post-operative period. Only minimal discomfort is usually experienced and is well controlled with prescription medications. Patients are generally back to work in 1-2 week, but bruising and swelling may take 2-3 weeks to resolve.

What Are Expected Results?

A smoother forehead with the eyebrows repositioned to a more youthful position is the usual result. An improvement in upper eyelid countour is also commonly noted following forehead lift.

Are There Potential Complications?

Forehead lift is very safe, but all surgery carries some risk. Complications are rare and usually minor. These can include widened scars, temporary hair loss near the incision and change in sensation. Other possible problems can occur and these can be reviewed on the link below.
